Amazon.com Product Description
Re-create the flavor of authentic Italian café drinks with the Café Roma espresso maker. Style-conscious coffee lovers will treasure its attractive, stainless-steel housing that conveniently sits on a countertop. Espresso enthusiasts will delight in the 15-bar Thermoblock pump which forces water through coffee grounds at the ideal pressure to create delicious, rich espresso shots. The machine also produces an abundance of crema--the light brown liquid that sits atop an espresso and characterizes a well-pulled shot--via its dual-wall filter system. Filters synchronize with heated and pressurized water to perfectly extract and caramelize coffee oils, resulting in a velvety, flavor-packed crema that will impress purists and novices alike.

The machine is simple-to-use, with a removable 1.3-quart water tank and an external water window that indicates when the tank is low. The tank is much larger than most consumer machines, so espresso enthusiasts can pull shot after shot without running low on water. As with any good espresso machine, the unit also includes a warming plate to prevent shots from prematurely cooling when poured into cups. Additional features include a froth enhancer for flavorful lattés and cappuccinos, and a removable drip tray and grid for easier cleanup. As a bonus, the machine also comes with a stainless-steel espresso cup set and a frothing jug.

Customer Reviews
It's good once you learn its quirks
First of all this is a very nice looking machine. It is well built and has a solid feel to it. As far as I can tell it does almost everything the 800XL does for a lot less money.

But how does it make espresso and froth? Pretty good once you learn its little quirks.

First of all, don't expect this machine to be an automated espresso maker; it isn't. It also doesn't cost thousands of dollars like the automated - do everything for you machines. YOU actually have to do some work to get the best results from it and it requires constant maintenance. I learned most of what I know by reading lots of reviews from other users. Some tips are in the manual but not all of them.

First of all, this machine needs to be primed before you use it, on both the espresso and steamer settings. With my first few attempts it just didn't get things hot enough until I learned this. The steamer will eject water for the first 20 seconds or so - so you need to prime it or you will get watery froth. The metal cups need to be preheated in order to have hot espresso. I simply prime the steamer and catch the water in the cup to preheat it, then dump it out.

I have had no problems with the filters clogging up as others have complained about. I think the thing here is not to grind the coffee to fine or it will get trapped between the two metal filters. I use an automatic grinder on the "fine" setting with no issues. Just make sure it isn't powdery or you will have problems.

I have also learned to stop the espresso from brewing when it gets to about 3/4 of the way full on the metal cup. It does continue to drip for a while after you turn it to the standby position. This isn't a big deal as you will have to clean the drip tray anyway once you are done.

The grounds do come out watery in the filter after use, but this is how the machine is designed to work. Not a big deal - just a little messy. If you don't tamp down the grounds real hard it isn't as bad. I find it is also necessary to clean the filters and other parts as soon as possible after using it. I think this also prevents the clogging problems. Once again, not a big deal once you get the hang of it. I just simply rinse everything out well with hot tap water. You do get some grounds up in the top of the machine, (where the filter seats) but I just get a wet paper towel and wipe it down - that's all. If you don't, you will find dried grounds dropping onto the drip tray or into your next cup.

Actually the machine is very easy to clean and the steamer is now much improved as the rubber nozzle has been replaced by an all metal wand. You simply wipe it down and then run some steam through it before you shut it down. Piece of cake.

All in all this is a good machine for the money. It makes great espresso and I find it easy to get good froth for other drinks. At first I didn't like it and was ready to return it. I just took me some time to learn how to use it.

Take your time, don't freak out, clean it well, read some reviews, learn how to use it, and you will enjoy some good espresso Making a good cup takes some experimenting and experience to get optimal results.

As far as its durability and longevity, we will see. I do think they need to replace the plastic collar that holds the filter in place. It really should be metal and is the weakest part of the machine which also gets the most use. Others have complained that the pump burns out prematurely. Maybe this has to do with running grounds that are too fine as that would put more back pressure on the pump.

Sure, its not perfect, but what is these days? I've been able to get some good drinks from it and I still learning.

Good Machine for the Price
This is my first espresso machine, and I am pretty much satisfied with it. I did a lot of research, and for the price, I think it is a good value. It heats up fast and is extremely easy to use.

There are few issues with it: it vibrates when brewing, causing the cups to move. Sometimes they slide so much they won't be under the brew head and the coffee will drip into the drip tray and not the cups.
The most annoying issue, however, is that the steam wand pours water for about 15 seconds the first time you use it each time you turn it on. This wouldn't be such an issue except that the water doesn't go into the drip tray, it will go all over the counter. No matter which way you turn the wand, you can't make it go into the tray. I deal with this by just catching the water in a little cup and dumping it out. Once it is warmed up, it won't do it anymore; just the first time you use the steam when you turn the machine on.

Despite those issues, it is quick, easy to use, and the coffee tastes great. If you don't want to spend $500+, it is a good machine.

Money Saver
Going great so far. Paid for it's self in 1 1/2 months. I use the same blend as my espresso palace, but the homemade tastes even better. DO NOT use a very fine grind, it will clog the filter.
As with the big commercials (I had one when I owned a restaurant), keep it clean as you go.
I am very pleased and hope this helps you.

About the Brand
The company's story began in 1981 when Phil Johnson started selling 100-pound sacks of whole bean Arabicas to gourmet shops in the Seattle area. One day, while shopping at his local supermarket, he had an epiphany: why not sell gourmet coffee beans to supermarkets not just in Seattle, but all over the Northwest? Phil promised supermarket managers that he would supply the bins, clean them regularly, and most important, supply whole beans each week.

Today, Millstone Coffee is available across the country. And Phil, who still owns his coffee plantation, has passed his legacy to the Millstone Coffee Company. While a cup of coffee takes just minutes to enjoy, at Millstone it's a lifelong passion. While coffee is grown in approximately 30 countries, less than 15% of the world's beans are exceptional enough for Millstone. We are devoted to selecting only the world's finest premium and Arabica coffee beans to ultimately please your discriminating taste.

Millstone is a member of the Proctor & Gamble family of brands.

About Proctor & Gamble
Two billion times a day, Proctor & Gamble brands touch the lives of people around the world. The company has one of the largest and strongest portfolios of trusted brands in the world, including Pampers, Tide, Ariel, Always, Pantene, Bounty, Folgers, Pringles, Charmin, Downy, Iams, Crest, Actonel, and Olay.

It all started in 1837 when William Procter and James Gamble settled in Cincinnati. Procter quickly established himself as a candle maker, while Gamble apprenticed himself to a soap maker. The two might never have met had they not married sisters, Olivia and Elizabeth Norris, whose father convinced his new sons-in-law to become business partners. In 1837,a bold new enterprise was born: Procter & Gamble. By each pledging $3,596.47 to the new venture, they began selling soap and candles. Twenty-two years later, their business exceeded $1 million in sales. By 1980 that figure would reach $10 billion, and by 1993 the company would generate over $35 billion in revenue.

Good Regular Coffee for Senseo
The taste of coffee is good but not super. What I value it is the price/performance, which is very good. The coffee is for my regular morning wake-up. A single pod can fill one mug.

Excellent coffee pods
They have a little more coffee in each pod and seem to deliver a slightly richer cup. However, the grounds are tightly packed and can hamper the flow of water through them. I massage the pod a little before I use it and that seems to correct that problem.

Love this Coffee
We have tried other coffee pods but the Millstone Columbia Supremo coffee is really a good coffee. Also we have found that every pod is has exactly the same flavor, unlike some other brands we tried.

Lid does not fit
Good size, keeps things warm, but the lids do not fit - they are too small. I had 2 major mishaps with them falling off.

Big Time Coffee Drinker?
Love the cups the only issue I have with them is they are not dishwasher approved.

Keeps Coffee Hot though better than most and holds a lot of it.

Nice BIG Travel Mugs
I purchased these for my husband after somebody at work stole the one he had for many years. He does not like any moving parts on the lid, so these were perfect. The price is great. They hold a lot and keep the coffee warm for a while. He's very pleased with them and put his name on it this time. We'll see if that helps any.We would not hesitate to purchase them again or recommend them.

small water tank
We purchased this home-edition for an office of 4 people and we find that we have to fill up the water tank quite frequently. Also, when filling a cup with fresh brew, it splatters out so that if you have it on a white counter-top the coffee stains are visible.

The quality of the coffee and that it makes only one cup when you need one is great. That's why it gets such high marks from us.

Extremely impressed... and actually a little bit embarrassed
I tend to research my appliances and electronics rather thoroughly, and after a couple months of reading both professional and consumer opinions around the 'net on higher-end coffee makers, I decided on the Keurig B70. After owning it for a week, I'm extremely happy with my decision.

The two points that worried me the most with this machine turn out to not really be issues: One was that I would be locked into K-Cups and at the mercy of their pricing and availability, but it's not so. You can brew your own coffee with this machine, just buy the 10 dollar "My K-Cup" adapter, which is a small two-scoop filter you can place in the machine instead of a K-Cup.

The other sticking point was here and there I'd read people say it made weak coffee, but a ha, this really depends on the type of coffee you're using and your brewing size option. After trying about 25 different types so far, I have found that the various dark roast and "extra bold" K-Cups are very strong and flavorful, while the medium and light roasts tend to be on the lighter side. From there, you can tweak the strength of your coffee by choosing the brew size. It's all up to you. Making 7oz. cups of various dark roast blends turns out to be quite a bit stronger and more flavorful than when I used to load up my Mr. Coffee with my own freshly-ground beans.

And that's where the embarrassment from my review title comes in -- I thought I was already making great coffee. I'd pester friends and relatives to try my coffee thinking it was top notch, but I'm tasting so many more subtle flavors and and notes in these various K-Cup blends that it almost seems like I didn't know what I was doing before. Eek.

So, overall I couldn't be much more impressed, but two quick notes:

- That panel on the right side of the machine under the LED panel, I thought that might be brushed chrome, and it's not. It's plastic.

- If you ask me, the machine ideally makes 7oz. of great tasting coffee per one K-Cup. So if you usually drink coffee from giant mugs or travel mugs, realize you will have to use two K-Cups per fill.

So Far So Good
I received this about 2 weeks ago (it was an early xmas gift). So far so good! I absolutely love it. My husband was very skeptical at first and wanted to make a "full pot" of coffee on the weekends, etc. Well, now we can both have a fresh hot cup of amazing coffee or tea anytime of the day or night and as many as we want without having to "make a new pot". He is now converted. For a really strong cup of coffee I recommend the Green Mountain Espresso Extra Bold blend...spectacular. The Green Mountain k cups are actually pretty reasonable! I still had a big bag of Starbucks whole beans so I bought the "My K Cup" filter through Green Mountain coffee and i even got a free coffee grinder when I joined their Cafe Express club (no cost and discounted prices on K Cups). Now we have the best of both worlds! I can even use it just for hot water and use my own tea. The water is not just warm, it is really hot...just like from the tea kettle! I have only had it for a few weeks that is why I gave 4 stars. Highly recommend.

Great Coffee
This was all we expected of it. The coffee was flavorable, smoothe and great tasting! Enjoyed each cup. We wish more variety packs were available so you don't have to drink the same thing everytime without having to buy full boxes of each kind. Toffee was my favorite. Cappachino was a bit on the strong side. We would order again!

Vaguely reminiscent of Coffee
I must confess that I generally prefer darker roasts, but even so...these K-cups tasted like slightly flavored hot water. I'm ever-so-slowly finishing them off when I want coffee but don't want a lot of caffeine. I won't be buying these again. I recommend Timothy's or Coffee People instead.

Update: Coffee People is apparently discontinuing their flavored varieties. Those from Timothy's and Green Mountain are better than the GJ "coffees."

I tried brewing with less water with my Keurig B 30 to see if that would bring out the flavor. Sadly, it was even worse with less water. Before, it tasted kind of like gas-station coffee; with less water, it tasted like OLD gas-station coffee. Additionally, I opened one of the K-Cups to remove the grounds, and it just had the aroma of cheaper coffee. I'd change my rating to 1 if I could.

YUM
This is the best favored coffee out there. If you like a variety this is the coffee for you.
